Bestselling author wins NAACP Image Award

Kimberla Lawson Roby NAACP Image awardNew York Times Bestselling Author Kimberla Lawson Roby recently won an NAACP Image Award for her novel, “The Reverend’s Wife”. The NAACP Image Awards celebrates the accomplishments of people of color in the fields of television, music, literature and film and also honors individuals or groups who promote social justice through creative endeavors. Winners were announced earlier this month on NBC. Roby and her husband, Will, attended the star-studded event.

Roby, a Rockford native, won in the category of Outstanding Literary Work – Fiction. As an NAACP Image Award Nominee, she was in good company during the awards event. Listed among other nominees and categories are a few familiar names and faces, including Kerry Washington, Don Cheadle, Jill Scott, Alicia Keys, Fred Hammond, Vanessa Williams and the list goes on.
