Soul News Network is pleased to announce the addition of Charles M. Washington, M.D., as an official health contributor. Dr. Washington is board certified in family practice and operates a practice at Rockford Health System in Rockford, Illinois. He is also a clinical instructor at the University of Illinois Medical School in Rockford; pastor of Mt. Calvary Church of God in Christ; and president of Hearts That Care, Inc., a nonprofit community organization established through the Mt. Calvary Ministry.
Dr. Washington has practiced medicine for nearly 40 years, including a full range of disciplines in internal medicine, pediatrics, surgery first assisting, obstetrics and gynecology with a special interest in women’s health. He has served as chairman of the Department of Family Practice for about 10 years and is part of the credentials committee.
“We are pleased to have Dr. Washington join us as a SOUL Contributor,” said Kimberly Buchanan, president and CEO. “Our health is the most important part of our well-being. And having a board certified physician available to provide expert advice and recommendations is a great addition to SOUL’s mission of enhancing the lives of individuals, families and the community.”
In addition to writing for Gospel Today Magazine and various medical journals, Dr. Washington has authored several books of his own:
- Healing; the Whole Story
- Menopause and the Spirit-filled Woman
- The Saint’s Manual for Holistic Health, wellness and Healing for Today
- The Health Care Family and The Power of Positive Thinking
- “High Blood Pressure” The Black Man and Woman’s Guide to Living with Hypertension (contributing author)
As a board-certified physician, Dr. Washington has completed extensive training and a rigorous review of a doctor’s knowledge, experience and skill in his medical specialty. According to Healthgrades, which is a leading resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals, board certification also means that Dr. Washington is actively improving his practice of medicine through continuing education. A board-certified doctor is more likely to have the most current skills and knowledge about how to treat medical conditions because he has taken an important step beyond the required state medical license to practice.
Dr. Washington attended Northern Illinois University and University of Illinois School of Medicine. He is the proud father of six and grandfather of five.
