ROCKFORD, Ill. – State Rep. Chuck Jefferson, D-Rockford, is offering high school and college students an opportunity to learn more about state government and community involvement by interning in his constituent service office in Rockford this fall.
“In some cases, a college education is simply not enough when competing for jobs,” Jefferson said. “Working in a busy office setting, interacting with community leaders and getting first-hand experience in state government and public policy can help students determine which career path to ultimately take and help them build strong resumes and gain valuable perspective.”
Jefferson is offering two unpaid internships lasting through Jan. 1, 2014. In addition to helping the office operate and respond to constituent needs, interns will also help with planning and attending meetings, promoting community events and writing. Interns will gain experience in state government, public policy and community outreach. Jefferson’s internship program is available to high school and college students, as well as recent college graduates living in the Rockford area.
“My office has participated in many internship and job training programs with positive results,” Jefferson said. “Offering interns, who will be tomorrow’s leaders, an opportunity to see the various ways a legislative office interacts with the public and helps to connect local residents with important resources, generate awareness and collaborate on state issues is rewarding.”
