ROCKFORD, Ill. – As temperatures fall and energy bills rise during winter months, state Rep. Chuck Jefferson is alerting veterans, military personnel, and their families of ComEd’s CHAMP program which provides bill payment assistance to veterans and deployed active duty military personnel.
“As a veteran involved with the American Legion, and member of the House Veterans Affairs Committee, I make it a priority to stay in touch with the needs of our veterans and military members,” Jefferson said. “Those who sign up for service risk their lives for our freedom, and deserve our respect and support. This program is just a way to relieve some of the stress that they may be dealing with while serving abroad or when returning home and integrating back into civilian life.”
The CHAMP program offers bill payment assistance of up to $1,000 while funds remain, deferred payment plans, extended payment due dates, cancellation of late charges and deposit reduction/or refund and budget payment plans. This year, ComEd has expanded the eligibility for the CHAMP program to include all veterans and deployed members of the military, previously only including disabled veterans and deployed service members.
“In addition to increasing awareness of available resources, I am also working in Springfield to expand job opportunities for veterans and military members,” Jefferson said. “I also supported an initiative to expand the Department of Veterans’ Affairs’ Discharged Service Member Task Force to specifically include the needs of women veterans and make recommendations to the legislature, aiming to increase support for our military women.”
To enroll in CHAMP, customers should call 1-888-806-CARE, or download an application at www.ComEd.com/CARE. For a complete list of ComEd’s financial assistance programs, or to enroll in ComEd’s bill-payment assistance programs, call 1-888-806-CARE or visit ComEd.Com/CARE.
