Eleven-year-old sixth grader, Myles Buchanan, started a radio show for kids back in February. A little more than a month later, he is set to debut his show live instead of recorded. Buchanan, a local student, has been pursuing an opportunity in radio for more than two years. His show, titled The Scoop, airs the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month, at 7:00 pm CST, on rockfordcollegeradio.com.
A first of its kind in the local area, The Scoop is a radio show for kids. Topics include information about area attractions, celebrity updates, news, music, sports, and more. During each show, Buchanan makes sure there is also a positive lesson to be learned. He’s discussed homework tips, fire safety, and more. Coming up, he’ll host an etiquette class and invite 10 friends to join him to learn more about proper behavior during elegant dinners.
“I have been trying to get my own radio show for two years. I want to thank Rockford College Radio for giving me this opportunity,” said Buchanan. “I wanted to go live so I can interact with listeners. I want kids to be able to call in and participate. This is going to be awesome.”
Listeners can access each show by visiting rockfordcollegeradio.com and clicking on the Listen Live button, starting this Tuesday, March 5.
