Rockford native Angie Upton recently opened The Loc Shop, a Natural Hair Salon and Illinois State recognized Braiding Training Center. The Loc Shop provides certifications in the area of African Hair Braiding and Natural Hair Care. Located in downtown Rockford, The Loc Shop is dedicated to providing economic development and cultural enrichment for the residents of the community through education, training and on the job training.
This salon caters to residents who want professionally maintained, natural hairstyles such as locs, twist and her signature invention, Sis Twist®. The Sis Twist technique uses high quality hair extensions to create Upton’s signature look. Sis Twist, loc maintenance, African hair braiding and cornrows are just a few of the styles offered at The Loc Shop. You also have the option of various colors and designs. Photos of sample styles are available at The Loc Shop’s websitewww.thelocshop.org.
According to a recent Facebook posting, Upton is seeking to hire 20 new employees who share an interest in learning the craft of African Hair Braiding and Natural Hair Styling, Front Office Support and Building Maintenance. Angie Upton, the owner of The Loc Shop, has hired and trained hundreds of displaced workers and public assistance recipients over her 25-year career in natural hair care. She says her desire is to do the same in Rockford.
The Loc Shop is located at 329 N. Church Street in Rockford. The Loc Shop will have its grand opening on Wednesday, August 21, 2013. Call 779-210-9114 to make your appointment.
Congratulations and best wishes to Upton.
