Zackery invited to attend NFL college pro days
Starting next month, NFL coaches, scouts and GMs are traveling across the country for their last chance to see draft prospects up close during their College Pro Days. Saint Xavier University’s Shane Zackery (Rockford, Ill./ Boylan Catholic) will be one to watch. Zackery is a senior who plays the wide receiver position.
Zackery has been invited to attend the NFL 2013 Pro Days on March 5 at Northwestern University. To many, this news will come as no surprise. Throughout his college career, Zackery has been successful both on and off the field.
A few months ago, Zackery was among 15 scholar-athletes selected for the National Football Foundation (NFF) National Scholar-Athlete Class by the NFF & College Hall of Fame. This honor is reserved only for the best and brightest college athletes. Zackery maintains a 4.0 GPA and received an $18,000 scholarship to assist with his post-graduate studies, during the NFF event this past December in New York. He is the first student-athlete of the Saint Xavier University football program to receive this honor.
Zackery ends his college football career as a leader in receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns. A business management major, he was also named a 2011 CoSIDA First Team Academic All-America in the college division as well as a 2011 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete. While he may have been busy, he still found time to work with a community center in Chicago to offer a free football clinic for underprivileged kids.
Zackery is an all-around good person and a great athlete who is clearly focused. We are rooting for him to reach his dreams. His mother, Kelly Shelby-Wilkerson, summed it up perfectly when she had this advice for her son, “Show your God-given talent on the field for those 32 NFL coaches, just like you show those college professors in the classroom.”
